I highlight what makes our heart’s so beautiful.
I share the story of an older man and a young man who say they both have beautiful hearts. The young man’s heart is perfect, new, and shiny, while the older man’s has tears and scars and gouges removed. They battle over who wins until the older man shares why his is more beautiful. The young man is touched and shares a piece of his heart with the older man. They left smiling and arm in arm down the path.
Too many of us, including myself, have built walls around our hearts to keep them safe and unharmed. But, unfortunately, this also keeps us from being touched by the goodness and joy of life. We must be willing to be vulnerable. We must be ready to feel all that this world has to offer, so our hearts can beat fully and loudly.
It is time to open ourselves to the world around us: To feel the pain we have denied and finally release it. Be willing to feel the joy of being loved and the pain when not. To feel the happiness of having a dream come true and the sadness when not. To be willing to handle all the ups and downs of life because we now are willing to have an open and beautiful heart with scars and tears showing we were glad to feel again.
