A loving heart for Thanksgiving. This week’s inspiration is a story about how a teacher impacted her student’s life. She asked everyone to draw pictures of what Thanksgiving means to each. She figured each would draw a turkey or potato, or pumpkin pie. However, one little boy did something different. He was her sad little boy, rarely going out to play and always standing beside her. He had such lonely eyes. The teacher could only think about what he felt in his heart.
What the little boy drew was a picture of a hand. The other kids wondered whose hand it was – maybe a farmer or policeman. When the teacher finally asked the boy whose hand it was, he looked up at her and said it is yours. She suddenly remembers showing him how to hold his pencil or feeling his hand slip into hers or how she pulled him closer when he seemed afraid. Of course, he was grateful for her hand.
How I describe loving is understanding that we all are born with a naturally beneficial heart waiting to be expressed uniquely through us. So, that is what the teacher was doing. The teacher expressed her loving, beneficial heart through her hands. So, a loving heart for Thanksgiving came out of her hands.
We have more power than we admit, and it lies in expressing our beneficial loving hearts with those who cross our paths—not waiting for those who seem to earn it – or for those who seem to need it – or for those who seem conditioned for it. When you are rooted in self-love, you openly and freely share your beneficial heart with everyone you meet and know that how you express your beneficial heart is good enough for the universe.
