When you receive a compliment, do you allow yourself to receive the affirming energy or do you push it away? Underneath any genuine compliment is the energy of love and acceptance: Energies that are necessary components to building and maintaining a strong foundation of self-love. So why do we often refuse to receive that love and acceptance when the universe offers that reflection through another’s words?
Is it just our attempt at putting up modest front and if so, why do we do that? Who taught us to deflect someone’s praise or kindness? Do we really believe accepting a compliment is somehow going to turn us into ego driven monsters? Do we truly want to push away the very energy that can lift us and remind us that this is a loving universe and that we are valued and loved?
Or is it possible that there is something deeper going on inside that stops us from receiving and allowing the kinds words to touch our hearts? I believe how we receive compliments tells us a lot about where we are in regards to self-love. When you are offered a compliment, observe your reaction. It will reveal a lot about what you believe about yourself and what you feel you deserve.
Whether you choose to do the inner work of returning to self-love or not, is, of course, your choice. But next time you are offered a compliment try receiving it with no hesitancy. You might just be amazed how it opens your heart.
Until next time be the light the world needs and stay in love for all!
