HOW DO YOU DEFINE SELF-LOVE
I was telling someone about the book I had written recently on self-love ( The Heart of the Matter) when they quickly cut me off and said that is the last thing we need. The younger generation is completely self-absorbed. I remember being in my 20’s and hearing that same concern about my generation – we were dubbed the ME generation.
Since I was more interested in talking about Self-Love and not about what is wrong with younger generations, all I said to the person was there is a difference between self-centeredness and self-love. I did add as I was walking away that, every younger generation is accused of being exactly what they are supposed to be –young and excited to be exploring who they are. I didn’t look back to see what they thought of my comment.
The exchange did get me wondering how many other people don’t have a clue what self-love is and what it means?
How many people confuse self-love with self-centeredness or selfishness or living a life that is ego driven?
How many people think it is actually wrong to love oneself?
How many people believe it is never acceptable to put yourself before another even when it is detrimental to your health or well being not to do so?
How many people believe it is better to walk around silently criticizing and beating themselves up rather than admit that maybe they need to practice some self-love?
When did we decide that we must look outside of ourselves for proof of our worth or value? And when will we discover that everything we need is already inside of us?
Self-love is not about self-centeredness.
Self-love is about unlocking your heart and discovering the truth that you are worthy of YOUR love.
You always have been and will always be and there is nothing that will ever change that!
Until next time be the light the world needs and stay in love for all.
